The Czech Society for New Materials and Technologies
(CSNMT), which was founded in 1993, is a voluntary association of individual
and collective members who reside in the Czech
Republic (CR). It is governed by its own statutes. Since 1993 it
has been a member of the Federation of European Materials
Societies
(FEMS), which embraces 22 materials societies from 20 European countries. Since 2004 it has been a member of the Czech
Association of Scientific and Technical Societes (ÈSVTS), which is a voluntary organization of 66 independent scientific and
technical Societies in the Czech Republic.
The activities of CSNMT are directed towards an all-round development of members’ creative abilities and professional knowledge, satisfying their technical and societal needs, supporting research and development in the area of new materials and technologies, inclusive of their applications in production practice, and supporting international cooperation.
The supreme body of the Society is the General Assembly. Day-to-day
work between General Assembly meetings is managed by the management
committee and the activities of the Society are controlled by the
review commission.
At present the following organization units of CSNMT are active:
The Centre for Research and Development of Materials and Technologies (CRDMT) embracing currently 21 collective members. The CRDMT provides for its members information support for research and study programmes and projects, establishes contacts with research units at home and abroad, realizes through its members solutions of research projects awarded to CSNMT, provides consultations for the respective bodies of state administration when preparing fundamental documents concerning the research and development of new materials and technologies, and the system of research and development in CR. The activities of the CRDMT are reviewed by the Council of the Centre, which is made up of representatives of all members.
The CSNMT Club at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of Brno University of Technology, whose activities focus on the region of Brno.
At present, technical sections of CSNMT, are being established, whose main objective is the technical development of new technology branches of manufacturing and processing materials and materials engineering in CR. In addition, the sections guarantee a professional platform of communicating with similar institutions abroad, they endeavour to apply new methods of research and development solution to technical practice, and they create conditions for disseminating new knowledge in the technologies of production and processing of structural materials and in materials engineering. With respect to the long-term development of the technical disciplines of materials engineering in CR they provide, if necessary, consulting and expertizing activities. The following technical sections have been established:
In May 1998, the Society instituted the CSNMT Award in recognition of life-long successful work in the field of materials science and materials engineering.
Since September 1999 the Society has been publishing for its members a CSNMT Bulletin bringing topical information. This bulletin/newsletter is sent to all members and all the issues can be found on the web-site of the Society.
